DRAW STAMP RIP PAINT FELT RUST STITCH
As a fibre artist, working with different materials and techniques allows me to introduce personal experience, existing stories and emotion into my art. It is important for me to retain a sense of inevitable deterioration in my narratives and materials.
My work begins with collecting wool, well loved fabrics, books and artifacts which I pair with my narratives.
With my series “The Decline of the Bee” I include real bees and beeswax to give the viewer a visual and physical experience and to provoke the question “Why are the bees dying?
My interest in bees started when I was given the contents of a hive that died. Collecting knowledge from bee keepers and researchers has continued to inform my artwork. As I began to create art with the empty comb, beeswax and the bees, I was driven to discover why bees are dying and to explore the issues around the decline of the bee population.
